Salem is magical in so many ways. While we're most known as the "Witch City," our history, like that of the "witch" has evolved. And today's Salem represents all of them. And we reflect this in our re-interpretation of the classic West Side Story image. Each rung of the fire escape represents a different version of our "Witch City" story. The first represents the actual "Witch Trials" and the persecution of innocents, the second the more mainstream witch and the tourism-trade built around it. And finally, the upper rung represents the Salem of today, a community that celebrates and accepts people of all belief systems (including modern witches).
